Sioux Falls gives you more to do than most cities its size, and the anchor is Falls Park, where the Big Sioux drops over quartzite ledges right at the north end of downtown. It is free, it is open year round, and it looks completely different in January than in June.

The bike trail loops the city and connects most of the good stuff, which makes a rented bike a reasonable way to spend an afternoon. Downtown along Phillips Avenue has the sculpture walk, shops and restaurants in a walkable stretch. There is a zoo, there are museums, and the summer calendar is thick with festivals, farmers markets and outdoor concerts.

Winter does not shut things down here. Falls Park is lit through the holidays, and indoor attractions carry the cold months.
