Downtown and Phillips Avenue
Downtown Sioux Falls runs along Phillips Avenue from about 14th Street north to Falls Park. What is listed there, which addresses hold several businesses at once, and what is not.
Downtown is the one part of Sioux Falls where looking for a business on foot actually works. Everywhere else you drive to a specific address and park at it. Here you park once.
About 324 of our published listings sit in these blocks, spread across 38 of the site's 40 categories. That is the widest mix in the city. It is the reason to start here, and also the reason a category search downtown returns more than you wanted.
Where to draw the edges
Phillips Avenue and the blocks either side of it, running from around 14th Street north to Falls Park. Main Avenue runs parallel, one block west. Cross streets are numbered and climb as you go south, so 401 East 8th Street and 104 West 12th Street place themselves before you open a map.
Several addresses carry a stack of listings
301 South Main Avenue is the Washington Pavilion, and four of our listings share it: the Wells Fargo CineDome & Sweetman Planetarium, the South Dakota African American History Museum, and The WP Cafe. 401 East 8th Street holds Remedy Brewing Company, Eastbank Art Gallery & Studio, Prairie Dance and Fat Shack. 421 North Phillips Avenue holds The Source Coffee Roastery + Taproom, Flying Santo Taco Bar, North End Bakery and Deli, and Dakota Craft Links. A unit number in the address usually means a shared building rather than a storefront.
Food and drink runs deepest
26 bars and 6 breweries are listed in this area, more than any other part of the city. Coffee is close behind. Coffea Roasterie and Espresso Bar at 200 South Phillips, Josiah’s Coffeehouse & Café at 104 West 12th, The Breaks Coffee Roasting Co. at 311 East 12th, and M.B. Haskett at 324 South Phillips all sit within a few blocks of each other.
The older institutions sit off Phillips
The Old Courthouse Museum is at 200 West 6th Street. The Pettigrew Home & Museum is at 131 North Duluth Avenue. Cathedral of St. Joseph is at 521 North Duluth. Sioux Falls State Theatre is the one actually on Phillips, at number 316. Walking Phillips alone misses three of those four.
What is not here
Home trades. Roofers, concrete crews and heating contractors are listed at whatever address holds their office or yard, and those sit north and west of downtown. Search those by category, never by area.
Before you go
Check hours on the individual listing rather than the building. Several of these addresses hold a business keeping evening hours next door to one that closed at five.
